- The Interior News was the result of Joseph L. Coyle's determination to build a newspaper in Northwest British Columbia. In 1907 he started the Bulkley Pioneer in Aldermere/Telkwa; he then moved to Hazelton and published the Omineca Herald. In 1913, he settled in Smithers to coninue with the Interior News. In 1918, Joseph S. Coyle sold the paper to L. B. Warner; he remained the publisher for the next twenty-two years.
