- History / Biographical
- Clyde "Slim" Williams passed through Smithers in spring 1933 en route from Alaska to the Chicago World's Fair by dogsled, in order to prove the viability of the Alaska Highway. According to the Interior News (Jan. 8th 1936), he ran out of snow after reaching Smithers and switched from a toboggan to a "narrowed Ford chassis on which the basket-bowl sled was mounted."
