History / Biographical
On Good Friday, April 8th 1966, a massive ice jam flooded the Bulkley River and destroyed 2 of the 3 spans of the bridge. In response, Okanagan Helicopters was engaged by the Department of Highways to ferry freight and passengers (including the residents of Kidd road) between their heliport at the top of the hill on the north side of the bridge and the Hilltop Hotel in Smithers.
