- The Red Hat Society is an international recreational and social organization for women, particularly those aged 50 and above. Its Smithers chapter was founded circa 2005. The leader of a local Red Hat chapter is referred to as the 'Queen'; Pat Scott was the third Queen of the Smithers group, following Margaret Watt and Betty Kennedy.
