Description

Leather calf weaner. Weaners such as this one were fitted over the mouth of a calf permitting the calf to graze on grass but preventing the calf from suckling. Pieces to construct this weaner could be found in Marshall-Wells Catalogue 1950, p. 242

Metal rectangular bell with wire clapper. The sides of the bell are riveted together by two rivets on each side. The top of the bell has a rectangular loop and a nail that has been bent on both ends. The top of the bell measures 8 cm X 3 cm then increases to a 9.7 cm X 6.6 cm mouth. One part of the rim is arched due to erosion. Inside the bell hangs a formed wire in the shape of a question mark that is used in place of a clapper.
History Of Use
Metal rectangular cowbell. This bell was secured on around the neck of a cow in order that the location of the cow could be determined by the sound of the bell. Bells such as this one can be found in 1929 Woodward's Catalogue, p. 122.

Metal currycomb with wooden handle. This currycomb has three metal pieces at the bottom that have been bent to form six rows of corrugated edges. Two elongated pieces of metal that make up the sides of the comb have been riveted on top of the ends of the scraping edges. Imprinted on both pieces of elongated metal is 'MCKINNON, ST. CATHERINES, COLUMBUS, ONT.'. A metal bar with spikes extends from one end of the elongated metal piece to the other metal piece which has been riveted on top, this is called the mane comb. A wire brace, which is one piece, extends from the handle over and through the scraping edges and back to the handle again. The handle is round and bulges at the center then tapers to a metal collar at one end. The other end has an oval piece of wire sticking out of it, this is called an eyelet.
History Of Use
Currycomb used for grooming horses. A comb such as this one was advertised for use in the 1902 Sears Catalogue. p. 413. This currycomb was found in the Blacksmith shop at the Bayson farm on Newens Road which had been established in the late 1800's.

History Of Use
Used on Bot's chicken farm for many years from purchase in 1962. To use the box would be mounted on stand, with an attached foot pedal on the floor. The metal wheel was heated up and as the chicken was passed in front, the wheel would de-beak it and cauterize the wound at the same time.
