Description
This is a long handled mattock with a flat yellow metal head. It has a wooden handle that is gently curved. This item blonged to (?) Glass, a tree planting contractor that lived in in Telkwa. Glass gave the donor this shovel 5 - 10 years ago and the donor displayed it in his barbershop since then. According to donor mattocks began to be used 50 years ago and were used up until recently for tree planting.

History / Biographical
Established as an experimental substation in 1938 and an experimental farm in 1955. Located on the old Sproule Farm between Smithers and Telkwa. The directors were W.H. Hicks and K. McBean, and the farm provided information on the major agricultural problems of the area.
