- As Smithers' 2020 Canada Day celebrations were cancelled due to COVID-19, the staff of the Smithers Chamber of Commerce brought together the Town of Smithers, Regional District of Bulkley Nechako, Bulkley Valley Credit Union, Interior News, and Heritage Canada to bring about the pre-recorded 2020 Smithers' Virtual Canada Day Celebration. Artists performed on stage while others gave speeches. The entire concert was made available for public viewing on YouTube.

- The COVID-19, or coronavirus, pandemic is an ongoing (as of March 2021) global pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019. First identified in Wuhan, China in December 2019, the disease soon spread across the globe, being declared a pandemic on March 11th 2020 by the World Health Organization.
- Custodial History
- These records were collected by Bulkley Valley Museum staff throughout 2020 and 2021 in order to document the COVID-19 pandemic as it occurred. Several of them were initially added to other fonds (Discrete Item Collection, Town of Smithers Fonds, Bulkley Valley Folk Music Society Fonds) before the COVID-19 Collection was created on March 26th 2021.

- This collection contains material related to the impact of, and the response to, the 2020-2021 COVID-19 pandemic in Smithers. - The Midsummer Music Festival has been held annually in Smithers by the Bulkley Valley Folk Music Society since 1984. The Festival was cancelled in 2020 due to COVID-19, but the 'Midsummer Memories' event was held instead, involving pop-up performances along Main Street from late morning until early afternoon on Saturday, July 4th. Social distancing protocols were in effect, preventing large crowds from forming. In addition, a display was set up at the Bulkley Valley Museum with slideshow displays of photos from years past as well as posters, t-shirts, and other Midsummer memorabilia. This poster was displayed on the door of the Central Park Building over the July 4th weekend.

- Item was given to the museum to put on the CPB door during the Midsummer Memories weekend, and accessioned afterwards by BVM staff. It was initially added to the BVM discrete item collection, then the Bulkley Valley Folk Music Society fonds (October 2020) before finally being transferred to the COVID-19 collection (March 2021).

- Rick Scott is an award-winning Canadian singer, songwriter, storyteller, and actor who started out as part of the '70s folk trio Pied Pumkin. He was inducted into the B.C. Entertainment Hall of Fame in 2019. Nico Rhodes is a classically-trained Canadian pianist, arranger, and musical director. "Roots & Grooves," a collaboration between Scott and Rhodes, was scheduled to tour British Columbia from April-October 2020, with concert in the Christian Reformed Church in Smithers on April 17th, but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
