Ernest Mostyn Hoops came to the Bulkley Valley from Ireland, with his brother Brabazon Muchamon Mostyn Hoops, and sister, Constance Eileen Mostyn Hoops. Hoops worked as a notary public and was in partnership with Thomas Thorp, operating an insurance business. Additionally, Hoops invested in mining and land.
Hoops married Theresa (Terry) Kelly after meeting in Smithers. Their only child, Sheila Hoops, was born in Telkwa in 1916, and raised in Smithers, B.C. Once Hoops retired, he and Terry moved to White Rock, B.C. For further information, see finding aid.

Fonds is arranged into two series: Personal papers and Photographs. Personal papers include legal, financial, and miscellaneous records.
Arrangement
No original order was perceived when records were processed. Legal and financial records have been kept together but reordered chronologically, while miscellaneous records were separated and made into their own file.
