Records within this fonds relate to the functions of the Canadian National Railways’ operation in Smithers, B.C. Records include directories, blueprints, forms, timetables, maps, booklets, and Amateur Athletic Association treasurer records.
The Canadian National Railways was created by the Canadian government in 1918. The company amalgamated several Canadian railways that had become bankrupt, including the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway which Smithers was established on. The Smithers station transferred over to the Canadian National Railways after 1922.

All items in this series were donated by Kerry Geunter to the Archives at different dates: 2009.67 (November 23, 2009), 2009.69 (December 7, 2009), 2010.2 (January 5, 2010), 2010.8 (February 23, 2010) and 2010.9 (March 17, 2010).

In 1915, the Great North West Telegraph Company, facing bankruptcy, was acquired by the Canadian Northern Railway’s telegraph company. After the amalgamation of the company into the Canadian National (CN) Railways in 1921, its telegraph company was renamed the Canadian National Telegraph Company. The Company co-operated with its rival Canadian Pacific (CP) Railway Telegraph, sharing telegraph networks and co-founding a teleprinter system in 1957. In 1967, the two services merged into Canadian National-Canadian Pacific (CNCP) Telecommunications. CN Railways sold its share of the company to CP Railways in 1984.
