Description
Curved piece of wood, grey in colour, with various shades of brown. There is also some streaks of pale green from being buried for so long. The wood shows signs of breaking down until petrification and is fragile. Further analysis by an archaeologist from UNBC has suggested that it may in fact also be mammoth bone.
Narrative
This item came in with a mammoth bone, July 9, 2002, which was found in the Granisle area. Refer to notes for 2009.23.2 for more information on the find.

Petrified fossil is brown in color with black lines separating the layers. Some of the layers are a dark grey color ranging to a light cream color. One side has a smooth cut from a rock saw and the opposite side is rough with white minerals all over.

B-Light-beige colored shale with a light brown curved imprint of redwood, the stem has spaced needles arcing towards outside of fossil edge. Total measurements are 9cm long by 7.5cm wide and 1.25cm thick. C-Round jagged fossil, light beige in color has a light impressions of seven extended small branches with needles and a center stem. Imprint is very light but easily identified as a dawn Redwood. Total measurements include 7.5cm in length by 6cm wide and .2cm thick.
History Of Use
These fossils known as Metasequoia or Dawn Redwood are one of the more common fossils found at Driftwood Creek.

Description
A-Straight edge light-beige colored shale with rust colored outside edge with a small dark brown imprint of small twig with tiny needles. Imprint measures 7.5cm and little branches total four with clear detailing on needles. Total measurements of shale is 19.5cm in length 13.5cm wide and .75cm thick. B-Small light-beige colored shale has dark imprint of small sprig with tiny needles covering most of the sample. Specimen is similar to one listed in (A). Measurements of shale include 6.5cm in length, 3cm wide and .2cm thick. C-Grey, brown shale has straight edges with basic rectangular shape and a dark brown oval leaf in the center. The veins and edges of leaf is distinct and clear, however a small portion of imprint is missing. Leaf impression measures 5cm in length by 1.75cm wide. The total measurements of shale is 7.5cm in length, 5.5cm wide and .75cm thick.
History Of Use
Fossils were located at the Driftwood Creek fossil beds.
