The trade mark is at the top of one side of the ruler without the makers name. 1997.58.1 d: A thin weighted 4.5cm long brass coloured tube which appears to have been attached to the bottom of the bulb at the top. The bottom has a small tear drop shape to it which would hold the hydrometer upright when inserted into water.
Narrative
The ten weights for the hydrometer are missing. They would have been round flat disks with a slit on one side that slipped into place on the pegs.

History Of Use
Typewriter belonged to Joseph Coyle, who was the founder of the Interior News. He used it in both his Aldermere and Smithers offices, around 1915 - 1919. His daughter, Ellen Myton, dates the typewriter back to approx. 1910. The typewriter was apparently stolen at one point "by a porter on the newly inaugurated train to Smithers - then discarded in a disused well, when the thief was pursued".
"The machine was cleaned and put back into service, and used until 1967, when my father was 96 years old." (Quote from note written by Ellen Myton)

History Of Use
This adding machine was originally owned by Tom McMartin, a bookkeeper who worked at the Watson's store. When this adding machine was in use, the employees were paid in a lump sum at the end of the month, so the adding machine was very valuable! Tom McMartin took the machine with him when he started working in the C.N.R. building. Mr. Joe McDonald took over Toms's job and his machine. When more updated machines came out, Joe took the machine home with him, and later donated it to the B.V. Museum.
