Fonds contains three sets of bound volumes (that have since been unbound) of the Pictorial newspaper and magazine published in Smithers, B.C. Volumes date from December 5, 1966 to May 1968.
The Pictorial was an independent weekly newspaper published every Monday in Smithers by Northern Graphics Limited and backed by Bill Yorke-Hardy. It aimed provide a more Smithers-specific perspective to counter the Interior News’ coverage of the entire Valley. As its name suggests, it was also more picture-heavy than its counterpart. A Magazine Section focusing on photos was also included in some editions. The Pictorial was distributed free by mail and through local outlets. Its first issue was published December 5, 1966. The 18-month competition between the Pictorial and the Interior News nearly saw the demise of both newspapers, with readership stretched thin between the two. This rivalry came to an end when the two papers amalgamated on May 29, 1968 under North Central Press. This was a somewhat one-sided merger: the Interior News retained its name, but the Pictorial staff took over the premises and publication of the paper. As a result, former Interior News publisher Ken Warner turned most of his attention over to his personal printing company.

Arrangement
All papers from ledgers with item numbers 2008.7.40 and 2008.7.41 were preserved. However, some additional items were kept from 2008.7.42 and 2008.7.43 that were not found in the former ledgers. These include:

Other papers in the ledgers 2008.7.42 and 2008.7.43 were destroyed as they were in poorer condition and duplicates.
