A large, flat white rectangular cardboard box w/ an extended gold coloured edge. 1991.195.1 b: The sides of the lid have a bluish-green marble like design all around..The top has a picture of a smiling woman wearing a large green hat w/flowered trim. Her dress is pinky/brown and she has a string of pearls at her neck and is holding a spray of flowers, all against a greyish background. The box is wrapped w/ a yellow taffeta ribbon w/ a bow on top at the lower center. The ribbon is taped at both sides where it has been cut. The picture is glued to the box.

A) A large, clear glass container having a large, round opening on one side. The neck of the opening is deep. The jar is basically circular, with flattened, slightly convex sides. There are two flat sides at the bottom of the jar, designed so that the opening is at the top when sitting on one side or at the front when sitting on the other. Both of these sides are slightly concave, and there is a circular indentation on the back side. There is a visible seam around the center of the jar on the circular side. B) A large, round, silver-colored metal push-on lid with a brown knob attached with a brass nut in the center.

This jar was used to display goods on a store counter so people could see what was inside. This jar kept everything fresh.

The milk bottle, like the Mason jar, is a newcomer to the bottle-collecting scene. Both appeared in the mid-nineteenth century, but the milk bottle wasn't popularly in use until the 1880s.

Crate is accessed upside down with two leather strapping for hinges. Visible markings can be seen on all sides of crate, they include the following: 'THE TRADE MARK' 'THAT STANDS FOR QUALITY' 'E.D. SMITH' 'WINONA, ONTARIO, CANADA' 'PACKER OF HIGH QUALITY GOODS'. Crate is old and is showing visible signs of rotting, staining and wear. Nails are hammered in sporadically throughout crate. There is a 7cm by 27cm partition on the inside of crate.
History Of Use
Crate was originally used for shipping 'qualty goods' by E.D. Smith however the crate seems to have been modified as it has leather strapping for hinges and crate is accessed upside down.

Description
A cloth Red Tye Mailing Bag with attached postage details. It is addressed to the Postmaster of Smithers and double circled postmark and wavy lined kill. ‘SILVER CREEK” can be made out on the kill and the postmark reads “SILVER CREEK NY / MAR 12 1952”. Three United States Postage stamps are present: one green, one orange, and one deep blue. On the reverse of this tag is a written stamp: “POSTMASTER: 4th. Class. May Be opened for inspection. / COLUMBIA – IELFIELD / SILVER CREEK, N. Y.” On the main part of the bag is a worn piece of paper that reads: “INTERNATIONAL PARCEL POST”. It gives instructions to the carrier in case the item is undeliverable. The weight of the item is noted in pen along a sidebar: “9 ozs. / POSTAGE $14” along with the mail clerk’s initials. A postmark is also present here along with a longer inscription on the opposite side of the paper.
