In 1915, the Great North West Telegraph Company, facing bankruptcy, was acquired by the Canadian Northern Railway’s telegraph company. After the amalgamation of the company into the Canadian National (CN) Railways in 1921, its telegraph company was renamed the Canadian National Telegraph Company. The Company co-operated with its rival Canadian Pacific (CP) Railway Telegraph, sharing telegraph networks and co-founding a teleprinter system in 1957. In 1967, the two services merged into Canadian National-Canadian Pacific (CNCP) Telecommunications. CN Railways sold its share of the company to CP Railways in 1984.
