Fonds includes a cash book, exam booklet, and a number of books. Books include “Sheahan’s Telegraph Cipher Code,” “B. of L.E. Funeral Service,” “The Compound Locomotive” and “Ritual of the Grand International Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers.”
The Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers was founded in Michigan on May 8, 1863 as a trade organization for railroad workers. The first Canadian chapter was established soon after in Toronto in 1865. Although little documentation of the Brotherhood exists in the fonds, presumably the local branch was established in the Bulkley Valley at approximately the same time as the completion of Grand Trunk Pacific railway in 1914.
