"Slim" Williams, left of Adventures Club, Chicago, Ill., and John [L?] Logan, right, of Pittsburgh, PA, 1410 miles of almost unbroken wilderness behind them, leave here for Vancouver, B.C., on the next to the last lap of their cycling back through Alaska. The two men left Fairbanks, Alaska, in their motorbikes on May 14. Nearly six months was needed to traverse the 1410 miles, during most of which they broke trail. From Vancouver the adventurers will head for Washington to give a report on conditions of the proposed route for the Aslaskan Highway. (BU) 11-22-39"

History / Biographical
Clyde "Slim" Williams passed through Smithers in spring 1933 en route from Alaska to the Chicago World's Fair by dogsled, in order to prove the viability of the Alaska Highway. According to the Interior News (Jan. 8th 1936), he ran out of snow after reaching Smithers and switched from a toboggan to a "narrowed Ford chassis on which the basket-bowl sled was mounted."
