The Golden Twilight Caravan drove from Seattle to Hazelton over the summer of 1930 in order to advocate the creation of an Alaska-Yukon-Pacific highway. The trip was led by P.E. Sands, head of the Sands Motor Company, in the same Studebaker car he had driven from Seattle to Hazelton in 1911.

Borden was the Canadian Prime Minister at the time. Sir Alfred was born in 1850 in England. He was the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the GTP by 1909 and Smithers was named after him. His wife was Emma Roberta and they had six children. He died in 1924 at 74.
