- History / Biographical
- Eva Williamson was born in Middleton, Yorkshire in 1923 to Ivy and John Williamson, a greengrocer. Eva was trained as a tailoress. During the Second World War she worked in a munitions factory and served as neighbourhood fire warden. In 1942 she met Canadian soldier Carl Anderson of Smithers B.C. Carl served with the 7th and 8th Light Anti-Aircraft Brigades in England from 1940-1944, and then served a tour in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany from 1944-1945. They courted for three years through letters and short visits. During this time Eva also began corresponding with the Andersons in Smithers. They were maried May 12th 1945, four days after the German surrender. Carl returned to Smithers, and Eva was able to immigrate in 1946. She sailed on the S.S. Aquitania, which set sail April 24 1946. She arrived in Halifax April 30th, and took a 6 day train ride to Smithers. Sons Roy and Peter were born in 1947 and 1949. Eva passed away on January 17 1998.
