- History / Biographical
- The Rootman Apartments, located on the north side of Main Street between First and Second Avenues, occupied the upper floor of the former Smithers Confectionery/Med-O-Land building from January 1958 until their destruction by fire on July 7th 1960. The Confectionery (owned by George Heffernan and later Cliff Delange) occupied this site from June 1935 until a fire on September 19th 1954; the building was then reopened as the Med-O-Land (or Meadowland) Inn, which closed in May 1956. Following the 1960 fire, the site lay vacant until 1964, when Smithers Electric constructed a building there.
