- First Liquor Store opened in Smithers in 1921. New premises were occupied in 1927 and housed the liquor store for 30 years. J.W. Turner was a vendor from 1927 to 1953 and during his 26 years his wit and way with words made him a renowned Bulkley River character whose stories are still related today.
