- History / Biographical
- The McDonell Family consisted of ten members, including parents Alexander Roy McDonell and Catherine Campbell and their children Margaret Mary (b. 1879), Alexander Roy (b. 1885), Mariam ‘Mary’ Uriel (b. 1896), James John, John Joseph, Donald Chesholm, Kenneth Andrew, and Norman Vincent. The family resided in Ontario, but Alexander, Mariam, and Margaret all moved to the Bulkley Valley and are buried in the Smithers Cemetery. See Series level administrative histories/biological sketches for more information on these individuals.
- Custodial History
- Before the records came to Joan Sandilands, Mary Uriel McDonell (the last surviving member of eight siblings) kept all records related to the family. When she passed away in 1979, Josephine Marie McDonell (daughter of John Joseph McDonell) inherited the records until her death in 2004, which then given to Joan Sandilands (the daughter of a cousin of Josephine). Records were donated to the Archives on January 25, 2017 by Joan Sandilands, the daughter of a cousin of Josephine’s.
