- History / Biographical
- The Smithers Miners’ Association (later the Smithers Miners’ and Prospectors’ Association) was first formed August 2, 1918, in Smithers, BC. The Association acted as an advocate and representative of miners and prospectors to the Government, regarding legislation, roads, trails, etc. Membership was open only to those with a financial interest in mining, and cost 25 cents per year. In the early 1920s, a growing interest in unifying British Columbian associations for miners and prospectors established itself. The goal was to form a governing body, still independent of Government control, to act as a coordinating body and representative of portions of the Province and all District Associations. In 1921, in line with this endeavour of unity, the Association changed its name to the British Columbia Prospectors’ Association – Omineca District. However, the original name seems to have had lasting influence, as occasional mentions of the Smithers Miners’ Association appear in the Interior News as late as 1930.

- Arrangement
- These records were rearranged in 2003/2004 by Sharon Kerr and Jane Young, under direction and notes by Wendi Croft. A file labeled Newspaper Clippings was deaccessioned from this fonds due to the clippings being unsourced and undated, referring to conferences or events in the United States. Records were rearranged physically and intellectually in October 2016 by Manda Haligowski to better reflect archival standards and to improve accessibility.
