- Photo was taken to mark the joint birthday party of Ernest Kirby (6 years old) and Ellen Coyle (1 year old). Ernest later drowned in Tatalaska Lake shortly before his 18th birthday. The children's fathers, James Kirby and Joseph Coyle, both lived to be 100 years old. James Kirby was a police officer, mining registrar, and clerk of the peace; Joseph Coyle founded the Interior News and invented the egg carton.

- Note on deaccessioned duplicate of this photo (P4006) stated that the photo was taken at the Kirby home, possibly in Smithers. In actuality it must have been taken in Hazelton as the Kirbys did not move to Smithers until 1918.
