- The hotel opened in 1914 and was built by the Carr brothers. R.E. Williams bought it in 1918 with Ed Orchard as the manager.

- P1502 is the same photo but with writing across the front. Its caption identifies this scene as a reception for W.J. Bowser.
- Ellen Coyle Myton (daughter of Joseph Coyle) stated in an oral history interview (2021.21.31) that the cars in this photo were the first ones in Smithers, and that she and Muriel Adams (daughter of J. Mason Adams) are in one of the cars.
