- History / Biographical
- Christine Holland was the daughter of Smokey McKenzie and Mary Zenie, born in Hagwilget sometime in the late 19th century. She and her husband Jim first lived on the Alexander Indian Reserve at the end of Francois Lake, near the Nadina River, where they made a living trapping and had 10 children (Mary (Seymour), Cecilia (Sepola), Betty (Williams), Joe, Ben, and five others who died young). The family later moved to Houston and trapped along the Morice River. After the deaths of her daughters Mary and Cecilia, Christine also raised their nine children. She died on January 16th 1980, reputedly at the age of 112, having outlived all of her children.
