- Helen VanDerPloeg was born in the Netherlands in 1917, came to Canada in 1952 with her husband and children, and moved to Houston (from Toronto) in 1957. She lived there until her death in 2007.
The Houston Boosters were a women's club which organized fundraisers for various community projects and charitable causes in Houston.
