- History / Biographical
- On March 8th 1991, Chief Justice Allan McEachern of the B.C. Supreme Court gave his ruling in the Gitksan-Witsuwit'en land title case, denying Indigenous ownership and jurisdiction over their traditional territories as well as their Aboriginal rights within these lands. In response, Indigenous spokespeople appealed to the Supreme Court of Canada, eventually resulting in the Delgamuukw ruling of 1997, which gave the first comprehensive confirmation of Aboriginal title in Canada.
