- Loosely woven pack made from buckskin. The opening has a 4cm wide band from which the narrow strips of hide begin their weave pattern. A wide leather thong threads weaves from one side to the other (like a shoelace) to secure the opening. The shoulder strap is also made of buckskin. Inside are 3 small pieces of bear hide.
- History Of Use
- Chief Thomas George 1892-1974; Mary Wells George 1900 - 1981. Thomas was known as 'Gisdewe' and was a house chief of the Gidimt'en Clan of the Witsuwit'en. See Historical Research file: George, Chief Thomas. Woven with 'babiche' made from deer hide. The hide was wet when the pack was filled up to 100 lbs. As it dried, it shrank, making the pack tight. Enclosed in this pack are pieces of bear hide.
