- History Of Use
- Ernest Hann 1889-1982. For more information, see Historical Research file: Hann,Ernest/Addie. This folding ruler is made of boxwood, a favorite lumber of rule makers. Mature boxwood trees were harvested when they reached 6-7 inches in diameter. Most of the early supply came from Russia and Turkey. By the turn of the century, it was being imported from Venezuela. Today you can still purchase a 3 foot, four fold ruler but the company, Rabon Chesterman, has threatened to stop making them because the labour costs are too high to produce a profit.
