- Description
- A) A hand operated sewing machine. Black enamel finish (somewhat worn off) decorated with rose, in gold. The name, printed in gold accross the front of the shaft is mostly worn off and only the "NEW" appears clearly. The machine sits on a slightly tapered base at bottom with a metal knob in centre front base. The black balance wheel has a cream coloured porcelain handle for turning. Silver coloured key may be pulled out and locked by turning, unlocking balance wheel from sewing mechanism, for use when filling bobbin. Threading mechanism on the side.
B) Slide plate - 1.25" x 3.5" metal plate with numbers on edge LL64249
C) Shuttle - Bullet shaped 3/8" diameter x 2 1/8" long.
D) Bobbin - Bullet shaped 1.75" long type bobbin.
E) Wooden Box - 10.25" x 4" x 1.875". Dove tailed corners for machine attachments.
F) Wooden slide lid - 3.625" x 10" for attachment box.
G) Throat plate.
H) Pressure foot.
I) Pressure foot.
J) Pressure foot.
K) Attachment with printing - "Johnston Ruffler Co. of UMWA. IA.
L) Bobbin.
M) Attachment.
N) Attachment. (Marked as M - probably N)
O) Tool.

R) Attachment with two seperate guages. Printing "Pat. Nov. 21, 1876".

U) Metal screw style knob.
V) 2 pieces of metal trim (apparently not belonging to machine).
W) 8 page instruction book and part of one cover. Fire damaged and aged. Parts of excelsior need envelope. (missing)
